Crystal Healing - Science or Magic?
The Indian sages, Native Americans, Aztecs, Celts, Egyptians and many other ancients did not use quartz crystals because they were foolish primitives, but because they knew of the existence of gross, subtle and spiritual energies.
From the complexities of quantum mechanics to the simple beauty of Kirlian photography, the existence of "subtle" energy (imperceptible to the 5 senses - like radio waves), is no longer in question.
Although it will undoubtedly take time to be accepted by the established medical community, alternative therapists from many fields have recognized that without restoring a person's subtle energy system, optimum health is not possible. Much has been written about how crystals, especially quartz, can improve human health, but the primary benefit is often missed.
Sunshine warms things, water wets things and crystals structure things. It's just what they do.
Quartz embodies an architectural and mathematical perfection based on the golden proportion, phi, Ф... Just like the Great Pyramids. The tips of all quartz crystals are angled exactly like the Great Pyramid at 360/7 or 5l.43 degrees.
Well documented preservative and razor blade sharpening properties hint at the restorative and "realigning" capabilities this form possess. Because these properties are manifest from an archetypal level (i.e. from the natural archetype of Ф, how they manifest on this plane may not be obvious.
"Harmony makes small things grow. Lack of it makes great things decay." Sallust, Roman historian and politician, 86 - 34 BCE.
The electronics industry does not use quartz because it is pretty, but because it structures energy precisely, in is this case, electricity. The natural tendency of quartz is for harmony.
There was no problem with the choice of a timing element. The quartz crystal is possibly thousands of times better for timing than the tuning fork, and quartz crystals had been around for many years. Only the type and the frequency of the crystal needed to be chosen. Quartz worked perfectly, in fitting with the Greek archetype of "sixness", the Hexad. The only difficulty was in the selection of the integrated circuit technology that would function at sufficiently low power.
Restructuring the physical and subtle bodies, usually needed due to everything from the air we breathe to the water we drink, is now recognized in many alternative therapies as a prerequisite for optimal health. The University of Georgia found that in every human body, all diseased cells (no matter what the disease), were surrounded by what is called "unstructured" water. And they also found that every healthy cell was surrounded by structured water.
The most well-known example of the ability of quartz to structure energy is the humble quartz watch. In 1880 it was discovered that if you applied electricity to quartz, it vibrates. You might reasonably suggest that anyone would vibrate with a couple of electrodes stuck in them, but the difference with quartz is that it vibrates in a regular, consistent and harmonious pattern. So harmonious, you can tell the time by it.
Quartz crystals have been in regular use for many years to give an accurate frequency for all radio transmitters, radio receivers and computers. Their accuracy comes from an amazing set of properties.
Quartz crystal oscillators (QCOs) are found commonly in microcontrollers, oscilloscopes, watches, and other consumer electronics. Just as the name implies, this component is usually made out of quartz crystal, which is both chemically and mechanically stable. It’s difficult to deform permanently without breaking, and doesn’t experience much in terms of hysteresis—when some force causes it to vibrate, it begins and stops quickly.
Quartz, silicon dioxide like most sand, is unaffected by most solvents and remains crystalline to hundreds of degrees Fahrenheit. The property that makes it an electronic miracle is the fact that, when compressed or bent, it generates a charge or voltage on its surface. This is a fairly common phenomenon called the piezoelectric effect. In the same way, if a voltage is applied, quartz will bend or change its shape very slightly.
If a bell were shaped out of a single crystal of quartz, it would ring for minutes after being tapped. Almost no energy is lost in the material. A quartz bell, if shaped in the right direction to the crystalline axis, will have an oscillating voltage on its surface, and the rate of oscillation is unaffected by temperature. If the surface voltage on the crystal is picked off with plated electrodes and amplified by a transistor or integrated circuit, it can be re-applied to the bell to keep it ringing.
A quartz bell could be made, but it is not the best shape as too much energy is coupled to the air. The best shapes are a straight bar or a disk. Interestingly, nature went for the straight bar. A bar has the advantage of keeping the same frequency provided the ratio of length to width remains the same. A quartz bar can be tiny and oscillate at a relatively low frequency, 32 kilohertz (KHz) is usually chosen for watches.
Modern quartz watches now use a low-frequency bar or tuning-fork-shaped crystal. Often, these crystals are made from thin sheets of quartz plated like an integrated circuit and etched chemically to shape. The major difference between good and poor timekeeping is the initial frequency accuracy and precision of the angle of cut of the quartz. Think of this in terms of sacred geometry.
If quartz can organize energy simply by contacting it, it is not difficult to begin to understand their influence on our health and minds. At a time when the necessity of energy treatments is increasingly recognized, it is the very basis of naturopathy itself, to accept that Nature did it first and best.
"Human ingenuity may make various inventions - but it will never devise any inventions more beautiful, nor more simple, nor more to the purpose than Nature does because in her inventions, nothing is wanting and nothing superfluous." Leonardo Da Vinci
