Biwa pearls gained their name from Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan, located near Kyoto. Historically, Lake Biwa was known for its thriving pearl industry, producing high-quality freshwater pearls. Authentic Biwa pearls from the original Lake Biwa production are considered rare.

Kacha Stones is the original ethically mined crystal shop, trading since 1996. Ethical sourcing is important for the environment, mining communities and can affect the crystal's energy. Although most crystal shops now use the "ethically mined" prefix, it's only possible when buying directly from miners. We have spent nearly 30 years cultivating relationships with miners from the icy peaks of the Himalayas to the arid deserts of Namibia - a labour of love.
