Biwa pearls are named after Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan, located near Kyoto. Historically, Lake Biwa was renowned for its thriving pearl industry, which produced high-quality freshwater pearls. Authentic Biwa pearls from the original Lake Biwa production are relatively rare.

Since 1996, Kacha Stones has specialised in ethically mined crystals. Ethical sourcing is important for the environment, mining communities, and maintaining the crystal's energy. Blasting a hole in the earth and collecting the remains does not produce the best crystals.
